Providing modern upgrades while maintaining historic elements was essential in the restoration of Kansas City’s oldest public fountain. After more than a century of deterioration and numerous partial repairs, a complete renovation designed by Waters Edge included all new plumbing and mechanical systems, additionally, nozzles, lights, and equipment were selected to discourage and prevent vandalism. Our firm designed the fountain’s center spray to be similar to the original 1889 design, but on a larger scale at the City’s request. The finished fountain also included a waterproof coating for the concrete basin to match the historic limestone walls, and the City was so pleased with our firm’s recommendation that they have chosen to use this coating design on many other basins throughout the City of Fountains.
