717 sq. ft. of water surface area (Main Pool: 535 sq. ft., Small Sensory Pool: 182 sq. ft.)
Waters Edge was approached to design two new therapy pools replacing the current therapy pool used by the IDC in tandem with a medical center expansion project. These pools are operated by Snoezelen trained therapists and used for aiding children with special sensory needs.
Both pools are set up with different features, based on different programming requirements. The larger main therapy pool ranges from depths of 24” to 42” and is complete with a custom stainless steel shower feature, benches, platforms, stairs and a zero depth ADA ramp. the variety of depth changes, features and entry points allow older children to interact with the water in various ways, suitable for their needs.
The smaller therapy pool is a more intimate space that allows for specific sound and lighting needs. It is also equipped with a crawl shelf, therapy water wall, ADA steps, a transfer wall, and other Snoezelen specific features such as projectors, bubble tubes, and sound equipment. In order to design such a unique and one of a kind facility Waters Edge traveled to Holland Bloorview, located in Toronto. It is the only Snoezelen certified therapy pool located in Canada and of the first Snoezelen therapy aquatic programs.
