Gifted to the City of Grinnell by J.B. Grinnell in the late 1800s, Central Park is the City’s oldest park. The 3.8-acre park has provided generations of residents with opportunities for outdoor recreation and gathering. However, over the years, playground equipment became outdated, and the park lacked modern amenities.

Waters Edge Aquatic Design partnered with RDG Planning & Design to revitalize Central Park for years to come. Grinnell’s rich cultural history informed the master planning and design phases, ensuring Central Park would maintain its identity as the City’s outdoor hub. As a result, Waters Edge designed an interactive zero-depth water-spray feature in the park’s central plaza. Not only does this spray ground serve as a visual centerpiece for the park, but it also provides a modern play amenity for children of all ages. Even after sunset, kids can play among the lighted jets of water.

Additional park improvements include a covered outdoor stage, open-air shelters, family restrooms, a playground, and the relocation of a historic gazebo.
