Located in the City of Columbia, the Shelter Insurance headquarters is constantly focused on ways to give back to the community. One of the many ways is through providing and maintaining a 5-acre garden and arboretum, the Shelter Insurance Gardens, at the site of their corporate headquarters, which is open to the public daily. The garden contains over 300 varieties of trees and shrubs and contains more than 15,000 annuals and perennials.

Alongside the garden is the Shelter Insurance Fountain, also known by the community as Columbia’s Fountain. The original single ellipse fountain was constructed around 1956 when the headquarters was originally built. Standing for over 50 years, it was in need of replacement. The original pump room and equipment had seen better days, there was no recirculation system, and the fountain itself was losing water at an alarming rate.
