On Monday, July 7, 2025, a brand-new outdoor pool opened at Tony Aguirre Community Center. The $4.3 million pool's amenities include a diving board, water slide, climbing wall, waterplay structure, a deep-water pool, a zero-depth entry pool, and more!

After the Jarboe pool closed in 2022, Kansas City's Westside neighborhood was in need of a public outdoor pool. Thanks to $175 million in bonds approved by voters in November 2022, the city allocated significant resources to major upgrades for its parks and community centers. As part of this effort, Tony Aguirre, which already had an indoor pool, was identified as an ideal site for an outdoor pool.

Those living in the Westside neighborhood once crossed state lines just to get to a nearby public pool. Now, they have a new state-of-the-art facility close by. The new pool offers more than just a place to cool down during the hot summer months. It also serves as a site for community members, young and old, to learn the lifesaving skill of swimming. Tony Aguirre's new outdoor pool will continue to serve as a staple of the community for years to come.
