The City of Westmoreland was operating an outdoor pool built in 1991, and in March 2024, city maintenance staff discovered that significant repairs were needed to continue operations. On April 30, 2024, a strong EF3 tornado touched down and moved through northern portions of the city, causing around $2.6 million in damage. It was the strongest tornado to hit Kansas during the 2024 tornado season, with estimated wind speeds as high as 140 miles per hour. This storm caused catastrophic damage to the pool, destroying its mechanical systems and bathhouse. The pool basin and features also sustained some damage.

In November 2024, the City of Westmoreland hired Waters Edge Aquatic Design to conduct a conditions assessment followed by preliminary design development for repair and renovation options. Ultimately, the best course of action was to construct a new pool and bathhouse at the existing site. After finalizing the chosen design, construction began in July 2025 and was completed the following summer.

On Monday, July 13, 2026, community members were officially welcomed to the new and improved Westmoreland City Pool. The new layout is a fully fenced 4,480-square-foot concrete deck with 1,805 square feet of water surface area. Key features include a 421-square-foot shallow area, three 25-meter lap lanes, a diving board with deep water, a basketball hoop, an ADA lift, and an enclosed waterslide. Outside of the pool is a fully reconstructed bathhouse, two large shade structures, and brand-new deck furniture.
